Diwali (or Deepavali, as it’s more commonly known in South India and several other countries), is the Hindu festival of light. It is celebrated by Hindus around the world, along with those of some other religions who have adopted the holiday.

Families celebrate the victory of good over evil with lights (often in the form of deepas, or clay lamps), Lakshmi pooja (a worship ceremony to the goddess of prosperity), clean homes, new clothes, rangoli (chalk art decorations), and wonderful food, especially sweets.
