If we’re traveling far away, one of the biggest expenditures is always flights. They add up, especially when buying flights for a large family! So we’re always looking for cheap flights for families to try to save money and bring down the overall cost of a trip.
Here are some of our favorite places to find family flight deals for groups and families. I hope it’s helpful!
My favorite way to find cheap flight deals is via Scott’s Cheap Flights. They have some really fantastic deals and are some of the best ways we’ve found to fly cheap with kids. We’ve had the premium membership for about 2 years and it’s well worth the $49 annual fee.
While we used the regular (free) membership before signing up for the premium one, I’ve found that the premium one gets way more deals, and gets them faster. A lot of times when we went to look at the regular deals, they were already sold out or the prices had gone up. The premium members get the deals first, so there’s less risk of them selling out before we’ve had a chance to look.
And with 7 tickets, we’ve more than made up the $49/year fee. Most of the travel deals still go pretty quickly. You do need to be watching for when family airfare discounts come through to your email.
Yes, when looking for where to find cheap flights for family travel, Google Flights is one of our favorites! It’s easy, extensive, and totally free.
If we’re flexible on dates/locations, I like checking out the “Explore” function. This allows you to put in your starting city and see what deals are available for different time periods to different places. It’s fun seeing all the options of places to take our family vacations around the world!
If I have more set dates or a specific location to which we’d like to travel, I usually put it directly in the flight search and then fiddle with the dates. I love that you can see the prices for the different dates. It’s helpful to see which days are cheapest to fly. When planning our family travel, we often try to leave mid-week because that’s usually less expensive than flying on a weekend.
Skyscanner is another tool that occasionally captures flight deals that Google Flights misses. Similar to Google Flight’s Explore function, it has an “Everywhere” function. This allows you to see the cheapest flights to a bunch of places to help find the best family flight deals.
The final tool we like to use for family flight deals tool is Momondo. I like that this one includes a lot of regional budget airlines for international travel. It’s great especially for shorter flights abroad when we don’t necessarily care about a nice seat for a long-haul and just want the cheapest airfare for our large family.
Other Sites to Check to Find Cheap Flights for Families
For family vacation flight booking, there are some airlines that often aren’t included in most searches, or that just don’t often show up even if they are included. Here are a few airlines that are either budget airlines or that often have discounts that I like to check directly with the website when booking family flights:
Keep in mind that these are generally budget airlines – they’re not my favorites, and certainly not for long-haul flights. But if cost is the primary objective, they often have some great deals.
